Due to popular demand, we can now offer another great value Australian aged Tawny port. As one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Australia, Tyrrell’s has since their start in 1858 always had a reputation for offering fine aged fortifieds, and even if this particular wine differs from some of their previous Tawny releases, it still fits the brief of being a fantastic value Special Aged Tawny. Made by a special blend of different grapes this Tawny has been aged on oak for between five and ten years. The wine is showing beautiful amber/brown colours and is in brilliant condition with the raisin like nose given even more intensity by a slight spirit lift. Offering a complex mix of fruity flavours, with plenty of sweetness that’ll linger for long, the palate has rich fruit and good acid, which provides for a well-balanced finish. The winery ageing process has already produced a traditional sweet tawny style that is ready for immediate drinking, but the wine will still cellar for another 10-15 years. This Tawny can be enjoyed on its own in front of the fireplace, or together with rich chocolate or caramel desserts and cakes as well as soft and hard cheeses.

Tyrrell's

The Tyrrell’s estate, nestled in the foothills of the Brokenback Range in the Hunter Valley, is a unique patchwork of vineyards. Thriving in a diverse range of soils, from sandy loams lying on ancient creek beds to heavier red clays over limestone, these vineyards produce some of the most distinctive and refined wines in the world. All of our estate parcels are well established, with many sites bearing vines that are more than 100 years old and still producing fine wines that embody the characteristics and style of Tyrrell’s and the Hunter Valley. Here at Tyrrell’s, we recognise that we have a responsibility to make our operations as sustainable as possible and are committed to doing everything we can to reduce our environmental impact, whether it’s in the vineyard, in the winery or in our broader operations. With this in mind, in April 2009, we established an Environmental Management System (EMS) that was designed to operate in accordance with the requirements of the International Standard for Environmental Management, ISO 14,001. We also established a dedicated EMS team at the winery to monitor and record our energy usage. This allows us to review our environmental performance each year and measure our progress towards achieving our environmental objectives and targets. The four main areas on which we’ve focused are:
  1. Sustainable vineyard management
  2. Reducing energy consumption
  3. Reducing water consumption
  4. Reducing waste
