Sigurd Wines developed from the idea based around my great grandfather who came from Norway. We share not only the name (my middle name is Sigurd), but we were also born on the same day. Copped a small amount of grief through high school, proudly use it as my brand now.
As a 19 year old, Sigurd travelled from Norway to find work in Australia back in the early days (around 1914) and found the quickest way to become a citizen was to join the army, therefore was sent over to fight for our country. He was caught AWOL after being shot and sent back to the front lines in France as punishment, this is where he was shot again. This time in the elbow, which made him unable to perform, lucky for me was sent back to Australia.
All my wines are minimal intervention wines which utilise natural yeasts, no fining and zero additions besides a small amount of sulfur before going to bottle. I’m always focusing on beautiful fruit from premium growers, mostly based in Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale. Handpicked, naturally fermented, matured in oak, and always made with passion.
